Every high oxalate meal is quietly pulling calcium out of your blood
Your parathyroid glands respond by telling your bones to drill holes and release calcium back into circulation. Sometimes they overshoot. So you swing low then swing high then low again. Three times a day. Every time you eat spinach, sweet potatoes, chocolate. This is not a theory. We have known since the early 1930s that high oxalate meals cause higher calcium excretion in the urine. Kohman (1939) confirmed that spinach not only supplied no available calcium but rendered unavailable 41% of the calcium of the basal diet. Kohman and Sanborn (1935) confirmed that oxalates absorbed from the digestive tract carry calcium out of the system, evidenced by increased excretion of calcium in the urine.
