Could Carnivore Raise Your Iron TOO High? If you eat carnivore, you probably aren’t worried about getting enough iron. Beef, liver, shellfish, and other animal foods provide heme iron, which is generally more bioavailable than the nonheme iron found in plant foods such as spinach. But that raises a very different question: Can a carnivore diet give you TOO MUCH iron? The answer is more complicated than simply checking a ferritin level.
